Every year, Google releases its top 10 rising searches for that particular year. This year, Chatroulette has taken the top spot which beat out Apple’s iPad and even Justin Beiber; the rest of the list is filled out with mostly celebrities and websites.
The list, which was revealed on Google’s Zeitgeist, breaks down to the following list:
- justin bieber
- Nicki Minaj
- Katy Perry
The list acts as a time capsule for what people wanted to learn more about during 2010, and having Chatroulette at the top clearly shows our love for random encounters. But, Chatroulette is far from a safe venture for anyone who has never experienced its antics. The service is filled with mostly hormonal teenagers who like to expose themselves, the website is not safe for work. The site is not family friendly because of the indecent exposure and it happens so often that Jeremy Clarkson once compared an unsafe vehicle to chatroulette by stating that it “is as dangerous as inviting your mum over for an evening on chatroulette.”
Other top searches, such as Apple’s iPad, show that the new tablet from Apple was of peak interest among Internet users wanting to learn more about the “magical” product from Cupertino. Of course, it’s also hard to ignore that Justin Bieber managed to land a top spot which puts him in good company with Chatroulette.
This list, for better or worse, will serve as the top trending searches for Google during 2010. This time capsule will allow others in the future to take a look back and see what the hot topics were for 2010 and provides a glimpse of what will help shape our future.
