The source code for the latest version of android, 2,3 Gingerbread, has been released by Google this morning. It is now available fro m the Android Open Source Repository. Engadget says that Google is asking interested parties to wait for hours to download the source code to balance server loads.
The latest version is shipping on the flagship Google Nexus S and other vendors like LG and Samsung will roll out for other handsets also. Now the source code is open, so the ROM modders would be working hard to incorporate it into their ROMs. The previous ROMs were ports form Gingerbread SDK an were very slow. Get ready for Gingerbread updates and new ROMs.
